What happened to the Olympic Stadium after the London Olympics 2012?
Following the spectacular London Olympics 2012 , the Olympic Stadium underwent a massive transformation to ensure a lasting sporting and cultural legacy. Rather than falling into disuse (as had many other Olympic stadiums in the past), the venue was meticulously rebuilt and reborn as the London Stadium, evolving into a premier multi-purpose arena.
In 2013, Premier League football club West Ham United secured a 99-year lease to become the primary anchor tenant, officially moving their home ground to the stadium in 2016.
Today, the London Stadium is used for top-flight football matches, but its versatile design allows it to host a diverse array of events. It proudly remains the national home of UK Athletics and regularly stages blockbuster summer concerts, Major League Baseball (MLB) games, and international rugby fixtures.
During the 2012 Games, the arena held 80,000 spectators. After extensive post-Games renovations, which included adding a new cantilevered roof and retractable lower-tier seating, the current regulated capacity stands at 62,500 for West Ham football matches. However, the versatile layout can still expand to accommodate 66,000 fans for athletics and up to 80,000 attendees for major music concerts.
